The National Choir Competition was held in the Mullingar Arts Centre on Monday the 2nd of March. For many students the trip to Mullingar is the highlight of the school year. The competition is in its 22nd year and students from special schools all over Ireland travel to Mullingar to perform. Preparation for the competition began before Christmas and the students worked very hard with Ms. Byrne on their carefully chosen pieces. The choir performed two songs, “Pure Imagination” in the Film/TV category and “Glorious” in the Religious/Gospel category. The choir sang beautifully on the day with a special mention to Zoe and Malwande for their solo performance. There were fourteen choirs competing in this year’s competition, St Paul’s School, Newry were the overall winners, St Michael’s School, Chapleizod were runners up, St Anne’s School, Ennis came third and the students from St Francis School Portlaoise won fourth place at this year’s event. The choir were thrilled with their achievement. Our students had a great day out and they accomplished a lot in preparation for it through their hard work and commitment. Students were treated to McDonalds on our return home. Congratulations to Zoe, Aoife, Valentine, Sarah, Lydia, Malwande, Aideen and Esther.
