Well done to all the students who travelled to St.Laserians Carlow on Friday 7th February for our interschools sports.
Senior Boys Soccer
Well done to our senior soccer team who drew 2-2 with Carlow. St. Francis took an early lead going 2-0 up at half time with goals from Jamie Guidrea and Liam Bannon. However in the second half St.Laserians got two early goals to level up the match. Sean Breen in goals for St.Francis made some wonderful saves to keep the score level. St. Francis were denied a penalty in the 2nd half when Robert Powers shot was blatantly handballed in the box. St. Francis had a number of chances to take the lead in the second half with a shot from Brian Tshilumba which was denied by the woodwork and Mikey Carthy had a fantastic chance which was wonderfully saved by the keeper.
Adam Kileen played a blinder in defence by making some crucial tackles throughout the game. Well done to the soccer coach- Mr.Johnston who was assisted by Ms. Fitzgerald on the day. This result now leaves St.Franics on top of the league table on score difference.
Well done to Ms. Mulroe and the rings team who had their first victory of the year in the rings competition. The rings team included Aoife, Aideen, Lydia and Lorcan. St.Francis deserved the win over an excellent St. Laserians team. St. Francis won all three games with some excellent ring tosses from the team. Aoife the captain lead by example by tossing the highest scores in all the games. Well done and keep up the winning ways.
Senior Girls Basketball
A huge congratulations to Ms. Byrne, Ms. Breidin and the basketball team on their first competitive basketball match against a highly experienced St.Laserians team. All though the result did not go St. Francis’s way, we are really proud of the competitive spirit of the St.Franics team. The team included Zoe, Esther, Malwande, Valentine, Kim and Sarah.
